Towshika and Dmitri’s Maternity Session at Studio Bon Soleil in Toronto

Winter has been temperamental this year. Some weeks, there’s snow on the ground, and other weeks, it looks like we’re deep in the throes of a gray November or March. For Towshika’s maternity portraits, we decided to go with an indoor studio (the gorgeous Studio Bon Soleil) in downtown Toronto and bypass our winter woes altogether.

It’s so important for me that photos look and feel natural, never forced or awkward. It’s in real emotions that you can see yourself in a photograph whether that emotion is joy, silliness, contemplation or anything else you might be feeling at the time. Photographs with real emotions are timeless, and will never fall prey to trends.

So many people are a little afraid of being in front of a camera. It’s completely natural. The key is to try and be present, relax and have fun even if it is just for a few moments.  Because it is in those moments when you let down your guard that some wonderfully genuine moments happen, and I click away.

Towshika and Dmitri were such sweethearts during their session. I am blessed to be able to meet and photograph so many wonderful people, and grateful with the trust they place in me to capture such momentous occasions in their lives.

Here are some of my favourite images from Towshika and Dmitri’s session at Studio Bon Soleil.
